2024 Water and Sewer Rates

New water rates start January 1

Starting January 1, 2024, district customers will see a fixed monthly charge of $18.40 per 3/4” meter on their Denver Water bill.

In October 2023, the Denver Board of Water Commissioners adopted rate changes to help pay for critical upgrades and projects to help the system prepare for future challenges. For typical single-family residential customers that use the same amount of water in 2024 as they did in 2023, the new rates will increase their monthly bill by an average of $1.60 to $2.30 over the course of the year.

A water bill is comprised of a volume rate for the amount of water used and also a fixed charge based on the size of your meter. Denver Water’s rate structure includes three tiers based on how much water you use. Indoor water use — for bathing, cooking and flushing toilets — is essential for human life and is charged at the lowest rate. Efficient outdoor water use is charged in the second tier (middle rate), followed by additional outdoor water use in the third tier (highest rate).

The 2024 volumetric water rates for district customers are shown in the following chart.

TierMonthly ConsumptionRates per 1,000 gallons
Tier 10 to average winter consumption (AWC)$2.84
Tier 2AWC + 15,000$5.12
Tier 3Greater than AWC + 15,000$6.82

Service/infrastructure fee increase

Starting January 1, 2024 district customers will see an increase in the monthly service fee billed through Denver Water.

The fee will increase from $12 to $18 per 3/4″ meter. Customers that have a 1″ meter will see a new monthly service fee of $36. The fee is determined by the meter size and is reflected in the chart below.

2 - inch8$144.00
3 - inch18$324.00
4 - inch36$648.00
6 - inch94$1,692.00

The service/infrastructure fee was established to generate additional revenue to fund capital improvements and continue to provide the appropriate level of maintenance to the district’s water delivery and wastewater collection systems.

Without the increase in the service fee, the district may not be able to fund the required water main replacement projects that provide residents with public health protection and safety. The district also runs the risk of depleting its cash reserves and being unable to perform the proper level of maintenance required to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to our customers. The district’s board of directors are considering several other options in order to fully fund the planned water main replacement projects.

For questions regarding the service fee, contact the district office at 303-979-2333 or info@plattecanyon.org.

New sewer rates start January 1

The City of Littleton’s 2024 budget proposes a sewer rate increase of 5% for all customers connected to the wastewater collection system. The new rates will take effect on January 1, 2024.

The South Platte Renew (SPR) treatment plant serves the cities of Littleton and Englewood as well as 19 connector districts within the 75 square mile service area. Littleton’s Sewer Utility Fund provides for the city’s 50% share of funding for the SPR treatment plant while maintaining the sanitary sewer collection lines within the collection area. Expenditures in the fund for 2024 are 1% higher than the 2023 year-end estimate. A 5% user rate increase is recommended for 2024 based on the results of a completed internal rate study in 2023.

Revenues collected within the sewer utility are used to pay for operational and capital needs to manage sewer infrastructure including repairs and maintenance projects. This revenue also supports operational and capital needs of the SPR treatment plant.
