water pipe installation

Infrastructure Fee Has Been in Effect Since September 2019

As the assets of the Platte Canyon Water & Sanitation District age, the need for replacement of existing infrastructure increases. Within the district’s water distribution system is a substantial amount of old cast iron pipe (pictured above), which fails regularly and results in unplanned outages, property damage, and emergency repair costs. Each year the District updates its 10-Year Capital Improvement Plan (Plan) to prioritize the replacement of water mains. The current Plan accelerates the rate of water main replacement to the industry standard, which is 1% of the total system length per year.

In order to fully fund the planned water main replacement projects, the Board adopted a monthly fee of $5.00 per ¾” equivalent on August 23, 2019 and went into effect on the September billing cycle. The fee is based on the size of the water service pipe serving each property and will be assessed on a monthly basis through the end of 2020 (see chart below). The fee is billed by Denver Water on each customer’s monthly water bill. The revenue is collected by Denver Water and remitted to the District.
