Each year the District updates it 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to prioritize the replacement of water and sewer mains. One sewer replacement project and four water main replacement projects are scheduled for construction in 2019. At the June meeting of the District Board of Directors, the Board awarded the water construction projects to Levi Construction for $1,320,961.00 and the sewer project was awarded to T. Lowell Construction for $162,690.00. Click here to view the 2019-2028 Capital Master Plan.
Construction began on July 15th for the first two water main replacement projects, both in the Leawood subdivision. In these projects, 3,377 feet of 8-inch cast iron pipe is being replaced with PVC pipe (pictured above). The construction project on S. Jay Court between W. Bowles Avenue and W. Leawood Drive is completed. Work on W. Leawood Drive between S. Pierce Street and S. Ingalls Street continues through mid-September.
The following water main replacement projects will start this fall:
Rowland Place Project – This project will replace 1255 feet of 8’ PVC pipe on W. Rowland Place between S. Depew Street and S. Sheridan Court.
Jay Drive Project – This project will replace 732 feet of 6” PVC pipe on S. Jay Drive between W. Elmhurst Avenue and W. Monticello Avenue.
2019 Sewer Main Replacement Project:
This project started on August 20th and replaced 293 feet of 16” PVC sewer main pipe on S. Sheridan Boulevard at W. Fair Drive. The contractor used a bypass system to maintain sewer flow so that no disruption of service was experienced by most residents. There were minor disruptions to those homes directly connected to the portion of sewer main being replaced. This project was completed at the beginning of September.
The District is planning to schedule Informational Pop-Up events for the remaining water main replacement projects and these events will be held in the subdivisions that may be impacted by the construction. As soon as the event dates are scheduled, more information will be posted on our website, Facebook page, and Nextdoor. In the meantime, if you have questions about any of the above projects, you can always call the district at 303-979-2333.
