Platte Canyon Water & Sanitation would like to remind you that Outdoor Watering Rules are in effect, having started on May 1st. Following these rules can help preserve reservoir levels thus reducing risks of future water restrictions while leaving your landscape healthy and nourished. The rules are as follows:
- Water during cooler times of the day — lawn watering is NOT allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Water no more than three days per week.
- Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets and alleys.
- Do not waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
- Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
- Do not irrigate while it is raining or during high winds.
- Use a hose nozzle with a shut-off valve when washing your car.
Watering your lawn two days a week should be sufficient during most of the summer, unless there are extremely hot days or dry periods. Incorporating organic compost to your soil can improve it’s capacity to hold moisture. Adding a thin layer of organic mulch such as compost, shredded bark or pine needles to your garden or around your plants can help reduce evaporation and minimize runoff. Too much mulch can prevent moisture from reaching the roots, so use no more than a two inch layer. For more tips and a Lawn Watering Times chart click here.
